About Faces Canada

A globally-acclaimed brand with 40+ years of proud Canadian heritage, Faces Canada is known for its premium, long-stay makeup and skincare products. Acquired by Purplle, the brand offers hypoallergenic and cruelty-free products that cater to all skin tones, types and ethnicities.

The Challenge

Faces Canada had a pre-existing website, but it was messy.

It was difficult to manage, and didn’t have the best user experience. We got down to business:

  • The brand required a complete store migration from Magento to Shopify in 7 days. The hitch? Keeping all customer information intact— orders, customers, accounts, everything.
  • Faces Canada wanted a smart, fraud-free store that would run multiple custom offers for users. The brand wanted to focus on upselling to increase Average Order Value (AOV).
  • The team wanted a store where they could easily handle complexities and manage in-house inventory from.
  • Considering the diverse range of products that suit all ethnicities, the brand wanted to add enhanced functionalities to help users find their product and make easy purchase decisions.

The Goal

Faces Canada wasn’t just looking to upgrade its website. The brand also wanted more control over running multiple discount offers, and promote upselling.

The Solution

We were in a  time crunch (7 days to be exact), and maintaining quality was important. We successfully built a clean e-commerce website complete with landing page to generate leads and ensure easy navigation.

Design and data migration:
  • Successfully migrated all requested data to Shopify store—including customer and order history, gifting, and product combos.
  • With custom design that matched their requirements, products were intuitively categorized to display all 60 product shades This was to help visitors make easy purchase decisions.
Customizations and functionalities:

Our goal was to provide our clients the intuitive ability to automatically get the right sale and combo offers on products. We wanted to increase the Average Order Value (AOV) and provide customers with more incentives.

Here’s what we did:
  • Built a custom development module to run multiple custom offers dynamically, on every product added to a cart.
  • Increased Average Order Value. Customers could add automatic products to increase cart quantity and avail certain offers. This lead to an
  • Added a custom functionality that offers free gifts for a certain order quantity, which resulted in an increase in purchase value.
  • Enabled upselling by developing a feature where complimentary products or discounts would automatically be added to a user’s cart while they made a purchase decision.
  • Enabled the team to run a timer-based sale every 6 hours for 3 consecutive days where the offers would change on select products (with 50+ variations).
  • Conducted User Testing on the Faces Canada website so no bugs or glitches take the limelight away from the improved user experience.

We also created an internal SOP document for the Faces Canada team so they could easily manage the website and make seamless updates.

The Result

After their website launch, Faces Canada observed a consistent rise in traffic and
engagement on their website, including:

  • We moved Faces Canada's online store from Magento to Shopify in just 7 days.
  • Customers stayed on the website longer, reducing the bounce rate from 87% to
    56%.
  • The conversion rate shot up by 387%, meaning more visitors became buyers.
  • The brand could now create landing pages for campaigns in just a few hours
    instead of days.
  • With higher conversions, Faces Canada could invest in marketing profitably and
    grow orders by 50x.
